Frigid temperatures, lake effect snow squalls, sleet and freezing rain, and general winter misery have a huge portion of the country shivering, and worse: hundreds of motorists stranded in their cars in Ontario, Canada are being airlifted out of a blizzard zone by the military. John Yang reports and Kerry Sanders has the latest from Florida where brutal cold is hitting tourism.

Also, bail for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, a new fight breaks out on Capitol Hill over earmarks, Brian Williams remembers American diplomat Richard Holbrooke, angry passengers recount another nightmare cruise ship experience, and this year's hit holiday music-- coming from artists who, at least for now, are second to none.
