American College Football

College football refers to American football played by teams of student athletes fielded by American universities, colleges, and military academies, or Canadian football played by teams of student athletes fielded by Canadian universities. It was through college football play that American football rules first gained popularity in Canada and the United States.

The dust, and that incredibly annoying crumb-rubber infill from synthetic fields that somehow winds up inside guys' socks and jocks, has nearly settled on Week 1 of the college football season.
Any night now — not that you can take anything for granted with this crazy string of weather-related delays — Miami and Maryland are bound to start and maybe even finish the last game before the next AP Top 25 poll comes out.
And what'll that poll look like? Some guesses, take 'em or leave 'em:

Ask any football coach and he will tell you that football is about more than just a win or loss, especially when it comes to playing a team that is not nearly as talented,

Auburn needed a miracle to beat Utah State on Saturday and the Aggies’ coverage on the final onside kick of the game was one of the worst single plays of the weekend and possibly the college football season. Credit the Tiger’s kicker for making a perfect kick but not even trying to block an Auburn player is completely pitiful.
After that play, everyone knew Auburn would make the comeback from down ten points with just over two minutes left in the game.
Sure, the Tigers won the game and they showed great poise in doing so, especially rookie quarterback Ben Trotter. But that does not mean they are one of the 25 best teams in the country.

The AP ranked Auburn 23rd and the coaches’ ranked them 19th in the country. With impressive performances by Arizona State, Baylor, Iowa and even UCF, there is no excuse for Auburn to be ranked.
With Mississippi State coming to town next week, the Tigers will have an opportunity to show that this game was a fluke but it sure won’t be easy to do.

Auburn let up 227 yards of rushing to Utah State and Vick Ballard is one of the best running backs in the SEC. Couple him with dual-threat quarterback Chris Relf and the Tigers could be in for a long day.
But it may have well been a fluke and Auburn could certainly come back and win this game with Michael Dyer and Onterio McCalebb.
Until that happens, though, the pollsters would be wise to give credit to the teams that put together a complete game and looked impressive for 60 minutes. Those attributes did not describe Auburn on Saturday.
