LOOKING BACK AT TODAY.
Passion of a President: One day after announcing a framework for a deal that would preserve the very tax cuts for the wealthy that he promised would be allowed expire, a fiery President Obama defended the agreement at a press conference, saying that he did not want to hurt the American people or the economy with a protracted political fight, NBC's Athena Jones reports. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A01:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

Miss the Obama presser? Too bad, it was a good one. You can catch up with msnbc.com Carrie Dann's liveblog with accompanying video. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A02:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

Despite the debate being framed as one over the Bush tax cuts, those tax cuts only comprised 37% of the entire deal struck by the president, msnbc.com's Tom Curry reports. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A03:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

Not everyone's happy with the deal. That's clear from the latest Blog Buzz, compiled by NBC's Ali Weinberg, showing the amplifiers on the right and left up in arms. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A04:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

But many are in favor. One person who will have a vote – Sen. Joe Lieberman – says he's for it. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A05:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

And Republican Jon Kyl, who was the top Senate negotiator on the tentative deal, says it has received a "general positive reaction" from other Republicans, NBC's Ken Strickland and msnbc.com's Dann reports. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A06:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

It's not all tax cuts, the White House is also pushing the DREAM Act, which would give some students who were brought to the U.S. illegally, a path to permanent residency. NBC's Athena Jones reports the White House held its third conference call in less than a week on the legislation, and there's a vote scheduled tomorrow on Capitol Hill. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A07:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

Also on Capitol Hill, the Senate impeachment trial for Judge Thomas Porteous continued. He's the 12th judge to face an impeachment trial in the country's history. He's accused of corruption, of taking cash, meals, trips and more from lawyers with a direct interest in his court. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A08:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

And in bizarre ethics world, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), who's facing an ethics investigation, is urging the Speaker of the House to investigate the ethics committee. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A09:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&

NBC's Pete Williams looks at the U.S.'s legal options against WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange. http://broadcaster.msnbc.msn.com/t?ctl=23A0A:B2CA5A050EF65E32DC0107A41C4C3E36&
