But what was equally heartbreaking, just as far as looking at the political system, was looking at the rabid immediate response... the rabid sick demented political response from a lot of people trying to pin a political agenda on this event. We have warned of consequences to words, I cannot believe how quickly both sides leapt in and tried to make political points out of these deaths." Violence, guns and American politics Tom Brokaw, NBC News: "Politics and guns are a part of American politics, tragically. I would hope that this incident would give us all great pause and prompt us to find a different way to resolve our differences... if we are going to resolve these problems which are monumental, we are going to have to find a different way to talk about them. Giffords' recovery Dr. Nancy Snyderman on Rep. Giffords' medical condition: "It's the long term issue... it really has to do with speech and the ability to organize thoughts. All the important structures that could have been life-ending were really lower. Had this gunman hit her across both hemispheres of her brain, really across her head or a through and through another way... if the bullet had been lower by just an inch, we would be talking about an [immediate] life-ending catastrophe."
