Metra brings quiet cars to all lines

Metra admiral accept appear affairs to apparatus quiet cars on all 11 Metra lines, including the Burlington Northern Sante Fe band out of Aurora and the Union Pacific West band from Elburn and Geneva.

Following a three-month pilot project on the Rock Island Line, the remaining commuter lines will offer the quiet cars starting on June 6.

Quiet cars are designated railway cars where passengers cannot use their cell phones and loud conversations are discouraged. All electronic devices must be muted, and headphones cannot be loud enough for anyone else to hear.

There will be signs identifying the quiet cars, which will be offered on all inbound trains arriving in downtown Chicago before 9 a.m. and all outbound trains leaving downtown Chicago between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.
The second car from the locomotive and the second car from the end of the train on all rush hour trains with six or more cars will be quiet cars, Metra said.
